FAQs – Solar Power System

  • Which solar system is best for Home or residential use?

Offgrid solar system (with battery-backup) is suggested when both reliable power and bill savings are needed. And, it requires higher investment compared to Ongrid system mainly because of the batteries. Ongrid system (without battery-backup), on the other hand, is ideal when bill saving is the only requirement. Ongrid system will give good returns when the electricity usage in the day is significant and when the system is designed accordingly

  • What KW solar system is needed for a 2BHK house?

In many cases, Jeevaditya has suggested and installed 2KW system for a 2BHK house. But, this will vary depending on the electricity usage for the 2BHK house. For example, if the Air-conditioner usage is high, then the higher KW system will be needed for convenience and/or bill-saving. For details & photos of more systems sizes, please visit

  • Should one choose Monocrystalline PERC or Polycrystalline solar panels?

Monocrystalline panels have higher efficiency (~20%) than Polycrystalline panels (15-17%). And, Polycrystalline panels are more economical compared to Monocrystalline. For Utilityscale solar (MW-scale), Monocrystalline are preferred as they also give significant land-area reduction. For KW-scale systems, the cost and efficiency factors should be balanced to make the selection

  • Can home solar system run Air-conditioner(s) also, in day and night?

Yes. Solar Offgrid systems can power one or multiple Air-conditioners in day and night. Ideally, solar systems can be designed to power most of the household appliances in day and night. The required system size will depend on the Air-conditioner tonnage, star-rating and whether it is inverter AC or convention AC. Note that Inverter AC would require lower system size because of the its lower power usage

  • Is solar system really beneficial for the house or residence?

A custom-designed solar system can reduce EB bill drastically. Most of the Jeevaditya’s customers see EB bill reduction of upto 94% (averaged over a year). Many customers also get ZERO bill for many billing-cycles over the year. Note that household power usage varies a lot over the year and system would be sized for average usage to get maximum benefit. Also, Offgrid systems will give the convenience of 24/7 power, in addition, to bill saving.

  • How much space is needed for the solar system?

As a simple rule, approximately 100 sq.ft roof-area is needed for 1KW system. As the system size increases, we should also look at area needed for giving cleaning access for the panels during maintenance

  • Does solar system need maintenance?

Yes, solar system requires maintenance but this maintenance is drastically lower compared to other power generating systems (like DG etc.). This maintenance involves very simple steps like cleaning of panels, refilling batteries (for Offgrid) and checkup of the safety devices and performance parameters. As you can see, these are simple steps which can be done by the customer himself or herself. In case consumer wants Jeevaditya to do this maintenance after free-AMC period, Jeevaditya offers discounted AMC for its systems.

  • What is the life of solar panels?

The solar panels have a performance warranty of 25 to 30 years. The panels will continue to produce power after the warranty period also but with lower efficiencies

  • Is there subsidy for solar power in Tamil Nadu?

There has been no subsidy for Offgrid solar systems. And, for Ongrid systems, there was subsidy in the past till Sep 2018. But, currently the subsidy is dis-continued for Ongrid systems. For more details, please call TamilNadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) directly at 044 2824 2800 (http://teda.in/contact/)

  • What are the components of the solar power system?

The main components of the solar power system are panels, inverter and batteries (for Offgrid). But, there are many other components which are also very important for performance and durability like mounting-structures, connectors, MCBs, DC & AC cables, safety-devices, civil material and other accessories. It is very important to select the right capacity and specifications of all these components to ensure good performance and longlife.
